Up In The Air Junior Ranger!!

One of the great aviation success stories is the story of Delta Airlines. Delta is one of the world's oldest airlines in operation and it is second among the world's largest airlines by number of passengers carried, passenger miles flown and fleet size. And to think that it had such humble beginnings.

Delta started life as the world's first aerial crop dusting operation (to combat the boll weevil) called Huff Daland Dusters in 1925. Monroe Louisiana was it's home base. In 1929, Delta started passenger service but passengers were not it's bread and butter – mail service was – we are talking airmail. After a brief period of bankruptcy, Delta rebounded. Its growth has been phenomenal as it has sucked up one airline after another. As of today that would be 40 different airlines. In 1941, Delta moved its headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia and in current day – there is a Delta museum. It sounded interesting, so off we went.

Hangar 1 - the actual first Atlanta Delta headquarters

This airplane could only take a few passengers at a time.
Not sure the exact number but under 10 passngers sounds about right.

The really cool thing that the museum has is a flight simulator. For a measly $450, you and three of your close personal friends can join a flight instructor in a flight simulator for an hour. It was a little rich for my blood, so we made due with the freebie flight simulator.

You also got to tour a Boeing 767-200 which was called the Spirit of Delta. The Spirit of Delta is a plane that was paid for by voluntary contributions from employees and retirees. They did this in appreciation to Delta because Delta ,during the turbulent deregulation period was one of the few airlines Not to lay off any employee. The inside of the airplane was pretty much like any other airplane except in the back, the seats had been removed and there were some museum displays.
