Being in Florida, how can you not go to Orlando? Ha, not for the 'Mouse' but for the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. The Morse Museum is “noted for its art nouveau collection, houses the most comprehensive collection of the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany found anywhere” plus a major collection of American art pottery.
The museum is located in Winter Park, an upscale suburb that was founded as a resort community in the late 19th and early 20th century. Walking through Winter Park, with all of its trendy restaurants and shops, I knew that Winter Park had not strayed far from its beginnings.
Told you it was a posh area |
We all know Tiffany, his lamps, his windows, his paintings and pottery. What I didn't know was that he had created a chapel. The Tiffany Chapel interior was first installed for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It was the backdrop for religious items being sold at the Exposition. It was said that it was so awe inspiring that people would drop to their knees and burst into prayer. It just so happens that the Morse has the chapel interior on display.
