The Way Of The Future

Eddie Owens Martin (aka St. EOM – pronounced Ohm) was a visionary – a person who had a template for the direction that the human race should endeavor to go. From a sharecropper's child to a sex worker, drag queen, drug dealer, fortune teller to the unsolicited leader of a movement, St. EOM was ahead of his time.

Leaving Atlanta on the Gladys Knight highway we headed to the small town of Buena Vista, Georgia to see Pasaquan.

Pasaquan is on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered among the most important visionary art environments in the United States. When I first parked and looked at the entrance I felt a perma-grin on my face. There was a certain joy about all of the colors. As I learned more about St. EOM, the place started to feel a little more spiritual, a little deeper. I've mentioned before that people of passion are a very special breed and St. EOM certainly marched to his own personal drummer.

For St. EOM, Pasaquan represents the future. It is his personal utopia, where all cultures and ethnic groups can come together in harmony and connect with the earth and universe.

At Pasaquan, St. EOM incorporated both spiritual concepts from ancient cultures and future ideas of levitation transportation. In the end, St. EOM was able to communicate the traditions of Pasaquoyanism to the viewers of the future with colorful, pluralistic designs that cover the whole site. Enjoy the pictures of Pasaquan.

This housed the propane tanks
You don't want something as ugly as a propane tank to mess up your vision of Pasaquan

This was his meditation room.
It was also the room where he made beaded curtains for sale.

Here is a website that talks a little bit more about St. EOM.
